For April, 14 Moose Run in Underhill, Vermont, is the property I’ve chosen to feature as my pick of the month. It’s a fabulous five or six bedroom home on 10 acres. The building was originally a large post-and-beam barn. The previous owners converted it to a big house, and they designed it to accommodate and active family on the go.
The main floor has an open floor plan. The kitchen opens up to the dining area and grand room. The roomy kitchen has a tile floor, lots of cupboard space, high-end appliances, and a pantry. Large sunny windows fill the grand room with light. Also on the main floor is a guest room and bath, as well as a study or den.
Upstairs are four bedrooms and two baths, all with built-in drawers, shelves, and closets.
The house sits on 10 acres that has great potential for farm animals and large gardens. There is water to the paddocks and barn. A car port has a heated work room and an attic for play or storage. Established perennial beds and a patio for outdoor living are the finishing touches on this property. It is listed for $431,500.
I can see a large, active family living here, a family that enjoys animals and gardening, and that takes advantage of all the delights Pleasant Valley has to offer – hiking, biking, cross-country skiing, downhill skiing and snowboarding at nearby Smugglers’ Notch, and hunting and fishing.
Fourteen Moose Run is situated in rural Underhill, yet conveniences are surprisingly close by. Moose Run is just off paved Pleasant Valley Road, and the Underhill Country Store is less than three miles away. The nearest full-service grocery stores are Hannaford in Essex, which is less that 13 miles and about 20 minutes away, and the highly acclaimed Richmond Market and Beverage, less than 15 miles away. Richmond also has five popular restaurants: Toscano Café, Sonoma Station, The Kitchen Table Bistro, On the Rise Bakery, and Bridge Street Café and Grill. Popular as a meeting place, the Village Cup in Jericho is about eight miles away.
The school system serving Underhill is outstanding. I can speak from personal experience, as my daughter attended this school system and I was very happy with her education (she’s now a freshman at Northeastern University in Boston, where she’s on the Club Swim Team). For Underhill youngsters, Kindergarten through grade four, there’s Underhill Elementary School. Upon graduation they go to Brown’s River Middle School, and then to Mount Mansfield Union High School.
