Two years ago I closed my real estate office in Underhill Center and moved my license to Four Seasons Sotheby’s International Realty in Stowe. While I still spend a great deal of time with Underhill real estate on the western side of Mount Mansfield, my license hangs on the eastern side in Stowe, and that is where I go to work.
Thirty years ago I more or less “landed” in Stowe, and within nine months I had a real estate license and was selling for McKee Real Estate at 580 Mountain Road. Now I am right back at that very same spot, 580 Mountain Road, but now it is Four Seasons Sotheby’s, and it’s exciting to be back in this culturally diverse ski town.
Coming to Stowe from Underhill most days for the past two years has inspired me to be involved in the community again. However, the lure of my home town Underhill and Underhill real estate is strong and hard to leave. Underhill is significantly different than Stowe. With a population of only 3,000 year-round residents, there are no restaurants or shops, and, unlike Stowe, there are few vacation homes. It is a place where everybody knows your name.
The elementary school, Underhill Central, has great community involvement, from cross-country ski days to Rocket Day to the parent-involved ELF program (Environmental Learning for the Future). The schools definitely bind the community. It is also very close to Smugglers’ Notch Resort, another great source of outdoor entertainment. And let’s not forget the stunning backdrop of Mount Mansfield. So, while I am enticed by the lure of Stowe, my heart remains in Underhill, as do many of my real estate listings!
Here is the latest in Underhill real estate, a home I recently brought to the market. 9 Evergreen Lane, a gracious contemporary on five acres, situated in harmony with the surrounding natural and man-made landscaping. The home was originally built by long-standing Underhill residents, the Rawson family. They have done much for this community, including the donation of the Deborah Lawson Library for the towns of Jericho and Underhill. The house is a part of their legacy and contributions to the town.
This charming contemporary home will steal your heart. Its many windows allow great light and views from many of the rooms. It’s a rural setting, right in the heart of Underhill Center and just up the street from the Underhill Central School. There are lots of private spaces in the home, such as the office space or family room in the finished basement, the the ideal setting is private as well.
Some of the special features include:
- Cathedral ceilings
- Large rooms
- Great light
- Sitting area that overlooks the living room
- Library with fireplace
- Beautiful screened-in porch off the kitchen
- Formal dining room
