The real estate company that I work for has come out with a new app: Curate by Sotheby’s International Realty. It’s an augmented realty app for staging empty rooms.
Augmented reality (AR) is one of the biggest technology trends right now, and it’s only going to get bigger. It lets you see the real-life environment right in front of you, with a digital augmentation overlaid on it. For example, an empty room suddenly has furniture in it. It’s a helpful tool for real estate agents who have an empty houses to sell, and anyone who just wants to see what an empty room might look like with their own furniture in it. It’s similar to the augmented reality app Ikea came out with called Ikea Place, which lets you see what their furniture would look like in your house.
This is a step up from virtual staging empty rooms, where you send a photo of an empty room to a virtual staging company. They do the interior decorating based on your suggestions, and send the photo back with the room fully furnished. Here’s an example.
AR lets you do the same thing on a mobile app, which can be very handy and a lot of fun. I was eager to try out Curate by Sotheby’s International Realty, but here’s the catch: So far it’s only available for Androids through the Google Play Store. The Sotheby’s International Realty brand will launch Curate by Sotheby’s International Realty for iOS this spring.
For all you Android users, the app is free. Go to Google Play Store, search for Curate by Sotheby’s International Realty, and download it. Be careful not to download their AR art app, or you’ll be stuck for hours trying to hang pictures on a wall, with no furniture in site.
I’m an iPhone user and I unwittingly downloaded the art app. It kept telling me I didn’t have a device, yet I was holding it right in my hand. That’s when I discovered I have the wrong phone. So, could an Android user please check out Curate and get back to me. I’d love to know how you like it and if so I will download the iOS version when it comes out. I’m looking forward to staging empty rooms with just a few clicks.
